Sandflies are more attracted to dark/warm colours and standing next to a person in a black fleece jersey will provide instant relief to you!

A light-coloured longsleeve merino top would be our choice for weather, sun and sandfly protection. Protective clothing is comfortable, and there's nothing more comfortable than merino. A hat with a good brim provides protection for your face. Sandflies tend congregate lower rather than higher. So if you cover up your feet and ankles and stand up you'll be less hassled. You can also provide your own sandfly attraction by wearing dark trousers & a light coloured top. Very cool to see the sandflies hopefully bumping your black legs while you eat in peace in your white t-shirt.

No matter how nice a bug repellent is, do you really want it all over your legs and arms? Sure, if you need to, but it's much more efficient to keep most of you covered, then just concentrate on the key areas, face and hands. What if you do not want to be covered up with long legs and long sleeves? Ok, that's fair enough. Here's what I do. I like wearing shorts and sleeveless tops for walks. I also take with me a sarong and a long sleeve shirt. When we stop for a snack. I put on the shirt and lay the sarong over my legs, put on Goodbye Sandfly on my hands and face. Then I can enjoy the stop and food, and carry on when I'm ready, not when the sandflies drive me to it.
