The benefit of taking the whole summer to develop a natural repellent was that Goodbye Sandfly was created directly from our guests' feedback

Goodbye Sandfly was created over the summer of 1999 while Becky and John were working for Funyaks on the Dart River in Glenorchy. Our goal was to create a product that worked on repelling sandflies, but as importantly that people liked using. We also wanted a product that was made of oils with few complicating factors, and be safe for children to use. We learned that citronella and rosemary and geranium, although classic repelling oils, were not universally liked. At the time we were just learning about the oils, without plans for a commercial product. And although we didn't know it, this is the secret of Goodbye Sandfly existing today. Because it was created with patience, it works, and even better, people enjoy using it.

It took us several seasons to realize that Goodbye Sandfly works on mosquitoes and as a bite soother as well. And a move to the West Coast to help us realize that the product was quite unique. Understanding of, and desire for, good natural products is increasing. As a result, Goodbye Sandfly is now becoming a mainstream NZ brand.
